Understanding the Self | The Biological Self

Hello there!~

How are you? Are you doing great? I'm hoping that you are doing well and productive today, but if it is not, I'm hoping that sooner or later you will be able to cope with your silent battles.

On the other hand, we will talk about our first topic in our blog series entitled "Understanding the Self," this topic will talk about the biological and environmental factors of physical self as well as the attributes and characteristics of our sexual self.

Physical Self

Have you ever been in a situation where you see someone with a familiar face but you do not know their name? Or have you ever tried asking about the name of a certain person, using only their physical attributes to describe who they are? If yes, this is because most of us recognize individuals by their physical traits.

Physical traits include the face, body structure, hair color, skin tone, height, and weight of a person, and the following did not develop at random, we inherit those traits from our parents, and this biological development is called Heredity.

When my friends see a photo of my brother they always say that we look the same even though we have 10 years gap in our age. It is because we came from the same parents and we inherit their genes.

Furthermore, not only the biological development affects the physical traits of a person because their environment also contributes to their traits. In today's time, most teenagers are obsessed with the idea of being thin because this concept is considered "beautiful" in their environment.

I was born in an environment surrounded by men, all I have beside me is my brother and my father since my mother is working abroad because this I was not given a chance to learn how to put on makeup and how to take care of my hair just like how a normal teenage girl would.

We tend to be conscious of our physical appearances like if we look attractive or not, and this is one of the hindrances of the physical self, that most of us do not see the beauty of perception and physical competency.

Sexual Self

Moreover, biological sex determines the reproductive function of an individual, it is assigned to us upon birth and is dependent on our physical attributes. While gender is the identity that is learned and embraced by the person.

The rate of teenage pregnancy is rapidly increasing because most adolescents did not know the consequences of engaging in sexual activities, therefore, it is necessary that a person is aware of his or her sexuality and sexual orientation is able to make rightful decisions.

Despite being raised in an environment surrounded by men, I know what my heart truly desires. Even though I am unfamiliar with taking care of myself in a feminine way, I can truly say that I am a woman at heart and in mind.
